UPCOMING EVENTS

Horizon Counselling, Consulting and Training is a growing organization who offers programs and support to both male and female survivors of childhood abuse, as well as support to young males entering into fatherhood for the first time.  We have traveled all over North America listening to statements and concerns regarding the lack of programs and information relating to childhood abuse.

In order to address our clients’ needs, HCCT has assembled a team of staff, advisers, and volunteers with over 30 years of recovery experience; one that will stand by you and provide superior support as you move forward with your journey in recovery.

Strongly influenced by identity politics, Rita evolved her understandings of anti-racism, access and equity with a “difference” in the anti-violence, health, refugee, child and youth, anti-racism, mental health sector. Her work is informed by cutting edge analysis of power, privilege and oppression that connects the local and global.

Richard G. Perry – Executive Director

Richard is the founder of Horizon Counselling, Consulting and Training (HCCT), a grass roots organization in the Region of Peel that provides support programs to men, women, and youth.

With a business background, and having been the former Director of The Gatehouse Child Investigation Site in Etobicoke, Richard’s passion to help others in need has moved him forward in building a highly reputable Volunteer Advisory Board and team of experienced professionals who provide clinical and supportive services to both male and female adult survivors of childhood abuse, as well as offering a program specific to young males who are about to become fathers.

Richard, having been a child growing up in a household of sexual, verbal, and physical abuse, has turned his own life experiences into positive speaking and training engagements. He has been fortunate in having presented to agencies such as the Sexual Assault Rape Crisis Centre of Peel, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, amongst others.

He has also authored newsletter articles for the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness National Magazine. He has appeared on the national television program, CLEAN LIVING, where the latest topic discussed had been Abuse to Addictions and how it relates to the many concerns regarding young fathers and their families. He has also appeared on Rogers Community Television discussing Horizon’s First-Time Young Fathering program and is working with THEHAZEFM.ca in completing a radio program regarding First-Time Young Fathering.

Richard is currently on the Board of Directors of another grass roots agency, INCITE; an organization for single mothers. He further volunteers his services to the Teen Prenatal Supper Club in Mississauga and Brampton where he shares his knowledge and expertise with first-time young fathers who have chosen to be active, and caring participants in their partner’s and baby’s lives.

Currently HCCT is in partnership with Adolescent’s Family Support Services of Niagara presenting the First-Time Young Fathering program to the Niagara region.

Like a number of other survivors, Richard has undertaken to write his autobiography about his abusive life as a child, keeping a secret for 40 years, being a young father at 20, his drugs, suicide attempt, and his battle with dependence on alcohol. The autobiography hopes to help identify the difficulties and hardships involved in disclosing (childhood abuse) to family, friends and employers, as well as the challenge of rebuilding trust, and love.
